Nobody

Nobody

Nobody looks back at me in the mirror.

That’s my name now. Nobody.

I used to have a name like yours,

Bold, confident, and pleasant,

But some people didn’t like it,

So they gave me a different one.

Nobody looks back at me in the mirror.

The eyes are shadowed. Bruised.

I used to have a good face too,

Sweet, considerate, and thoughtful,

But they didn’t like that either,

So they gave me a free makeover.

Nobody looks back at me in the mirror.

The lips are swollen. Bleeding.

I had a smile a long time ago,

Wide, enthusiastic, and cheerful,

But that’s also not allowed,

So they decided to take that too.

Nobody looks back at me in the mirror.

But you know what? Strength.

I have my spirit and my will.

No one can ever take that away.

I’m sorry it’s not allowed,

But I’m much stronger than you.

Nobody takes a lot of crap from you,

But I still stand. Eagerly.

I help the others you tear down,

I smile to the others you break.

Who taught me to be kind?

You did, with your first punch.

Nobody has learned a lesson, yes,

But not the one you thought.

You blessed me by hating me,

Teaching me to not be like you.

Is that what you wanted?

You didn’t? Sure seems like it.

Nobody cares and Nobody listens,

Nobody is there. Nobody.

Nobody can stand up to you,

Nobody can take you on

Nobody scares you….

And Nobody says screw you.
