A Nod To The Times

A nod to the times,
When the country was strong,
When life was simple,
And the days were long,

When the strength of a person,
Was the strength of a nation,
And the jobs we had,
Reflected our station.

We knew one another,
We smiled and waved,
And worked by the hour,
For the money we saved.

Work back then,
Was hard and true,
In the towns at the time,
Was a great hope that grew.

Well the time has come,
To know as a nation,
That times have changed,
For this generation.

As a sign of the times,
The challenge again,
Requires us all,
To draw from within.

Where the strength of the old,
Is strength from the past,
As we look to the future,
We know it must last.

So the hope that we have,
To build once again,
Is the hope that we had,
Renewed now and then.
