A long walk home

Your watering eyes

Searching and gentle

A glimpse, a pass

Remembering suddenly

Tall grass and weeds

A porchlight on

A field of cows

A person you love

The sky above

Tired in your room

With your eyes on the door
Your boots on the road
You walk back home

A cold, dark night
It swallows you whole

You water the leaves

They water the hole

And under rocks

The algae lies

A mellow life

The twisted sky

You saw it there

You watched it cry

A bright yellow morning
Your soft blue eyes

Warmth, and growing

I hope it’s alright

Your wooden bird house

The things you said

And the words you wrote

Stood still in my head
