I am weak

I often need help

I can’t do things on my own

It scares me

I’m much like a turtle

I’m a delicate creature

And to survive

I build a hard shell around me

No one knows my struggle

No one truly knows who I am

I walk down my High School halls

Wearing a mask

Only when I return home

Can I remove the mask

Not even my family understands

They see what I want them to see

I want people to see some strong

Someone tough

Someone capable

Someone optimistic

But I have accepted this

I have accepted that I’m weak

And I am taking steps

Steps that will make me stronger
