Filtering someone or something is to wash away who or what they are.

Filters are to get rid of anything that does not belong there, or what is looked at as misplaced.

A water filtering system helps get rid of unwanted substances in the water.

However with humans, it is important not to have a filter.

It separates us for who we individually are.

It helps me be the person I am.
