The Noises We Hear
I'm on the second floor of an antiquely modern coffee shop. The man in his early 20's sits next to me clicking away at his computer. Click Clack Click Tap Tap Tap. I wish I would have remembered my headphones. I doubt I will ever be able to write anything as aggressively as he is typing right now. I take a sip of my fluorescently sweet drink that I hate and love at the same time and set my mind to work. Tap. Tap. Why do we sit and complete mundane tasks for the end that does not matter? I look up at the clock about 4 yards away. Tick Tock Tap Click. It's 4:07. I'm sitting in the chair and then I'm falling. I look up at the floor with my chair still on it and watch as I sail away. Tick Tap. Then they start to laugh. It's a sickly laugh. The kind that makes my teeth hurt. I know I will never understand why I can hear the ticking of the clock or the tapping of the keys. But I will always know why they laugh. Every single one of them is watching me fall, flailing in the blinding spotlight and they are laughing. Ha Tick Click Tock Tap. I can't see anything around me, and all I can do is listen to the life go on. The hectic sounds increase getting louder and louder and louder and then they stop. Thump Thump. Thump Thump. Thump Thump. Thump. It’s 4:08.
