Normal
She walks down the hallway
You see that smile
That laugh
Those “friends” of hers and at that time
She's thinking exactly what you're thinking too…
Then, she gets home
Goodbye smile, laugh
Hello tears, fear
Dad stumbles across the living room breathing
Louder, deeper with every step
Mom comes home, water in her eyes
The reflection of dad in those lakes is more clear than his vision.
She eats dinner
Dads yelling
The water has yet to drain from mom’s eyes.
Walking up to bed she sees
Dad passed out on the couch
On the floor
Sitting up
Whatever it happens to be tonight is nothing new.
It's all the same by now.
He's still got that handle of captain at his side, mouths open, and that same old snore.
Then there's mom,
Already in bed.
Just another ordinary night.
Goodnight you drunk bastard.
Let's sleep
Now repeat…
She walks down the hallway…
