northern snowshowers

right now you’re resting in your bed,
dreams whirling around within your head.
outside the snow has stuck to the ground,
layers of ice flakes muffling sound.

i hope that when you do wake,
excitement abounds for your own sake.
your love for the magic of wintry wonder
does by all right my heart slow plunder.

perhaps i should consider unfair
the way i wish to sit and stare
as your sleepy eyes alight with joy
for the white powder the sky has thus employed—

i’d think—if only, for you alone,
for that is where my heart has flown.
but i’ll patient wait for the middle day,
and perhaps in the snow together we’ll play.
