Not Broken

I am not broken

Because I need things to be just right,

Because I worry about the little things,

Because my fears are unrealistic.

I am not broken, you just don’t understand.

I am not broken

Because I make noises on repeat,

Because my actions don’t make sense,

Because it’s hard to hold my tics in.

I am not broken, you just don’t understand.

I am not broken

Because I love freely,

Because I am confident in my sexuality,

Because I seek pleasure.

I am not broken, you just don’t understand.

I am not broken

Because I don’t let my birth define me

Because I want to live as who I am,

Because I my gender isn’t set in stone.

I am not broken, you just don’t understand.

I am not broken

Because I love the same sex,

Because my heart won’t conform to your expectations,

Because

I am not broken, you just don’t understand.

I am not broken

Because I don’t want sex,

Because I don’t want children,

Because I don’t crave intimacy.

I am not broken, you just don’t understand.

And I am not broken

Because I don’t feel love,

Because romance has no pull for me,

Because friends are enough for me.

I am not broken, you just don’t understand.

We are not broken

Because I think differently,

Because I act differently,

Because I live differently,

Because I identify differently,

Because I love differently

Or don’t love at all.

We are not broken. You just don’t understand.
