Not a cog in the Machine
History
So bright and vibrant
The past is alive
These people lived
And are remembered so fully
I wish for that
These people were human
Just like you, just like me
They broke the rules
Fought society and we call them heroes
But society does not wish to be fought
We must sit in our desks
Be quiet, pay attention
There is no learning only repetition
I understand nothing
I am nothing
Not to you
Just a cog in the machine
Just a piece of the puzzle
not an individual
I shouldn't have dreams or hopes
You don't agree with them
You don't want me to stand out
You don't want me to be remembered
I have to conform to you
I must follow the rules
But I will stand out and stand up
I swear to make a difference
It's not about being in books
Or being remembered by the masses
I don't want to be Rosa Parks or Amelia Airheart
I want to make a difference
One diffference
I want my life to mean something
More than "she was a good student"
I want "She was a great person"
"She changed my life"
"I wish I had her courage"
Call me a rebel
Rosa was
Call me radical
Amelia was
But please when you do
also call me
"Revolutionary"
