Not Enough

It was a war between love and hate

A war til death do us part

The ultimate battle for rights over the future

The beginning of our inevitable downfall

I never felt as a prize to be won

But sooner rather than later my never became my always

Not by man nor by friend

But by family

I didnt even sense the attack

The ones that could see all of my scars took advantage

And pulled the carpet from right underneath me

I felt loved at first sight of her warm brown eyes and his illuminating ones

They seeped into my new, clean skin with adoration and love

I never thought that kind of love would never fade

If only I could have sensed it before it swiped us all out in one fell swoop

I'm the wiser now and know to not trust such nonsense

There isn't a love that is undying

No matter how much you want to submit to the craving

Dont

It will only end in one thing

Catastrophic destruction

They layered on blankets of comfort and safety

Just for one giant incredulous mask to be concealing the real truth

Smoke, alcohol, infidelity

It's always the things we can't have that tempt us the most

What people have isn't ever enough

What they had wasn't ever enough

I wasn't ever enough
