Not Just One Path
I want to be a pro snowboarder,
a band’s lead guitarist,
a digital artist,
a designer.
There are so many paths I wish to follow;
so many things I want to experience,
so many different directions I want to take my life.
But, in our society, I cannot.
I cannot choose to do all these things.
There can only be one.
One path, one career, one life.
After college, I have to choose one,
a single path that I will be stuck on for most of my life,
losing the precious time to do anything else,
and my dreams becoming unattainable while I do something that I don’t love.
We are in a society that says money equals success.
You hate a job,
oh well.
All that matters is that you are good at it.
Those who choose to follow their dreams are seen as
crazy,
foolish,
stupid.
Why put yourself in that a position?
Why cause yourself to struggle?
Why? Why? Why?
Simply because it is what makes them happy.
While money may equal success to most,
in reality, happiness is what you should strive for.
If I want to ride the slopes all day, every day,
then so be it.
If I want to play in a garage band,
then so be it.
If I’m not a billionaire following my passion,
then SO BE IT.
As long as I am happy, that’s all that matters.
