Not a Legend
I’ve watched you
toil your youth away
all because you were growing
your wings of freedom
from the life
you were locked in
with your bright eyes
and your breaking heart
you put on your wings
of feathers and wax
ready to escape from
your labyrinth of loneliness
you set your eyes
on the one thing
that would destroy you
you laughed as you fell
threw your head back and
yelled into the wind
teeth bared to the world
you thought
loved you little
but you were wrong
there was no freedom
in your fall
from humanity
into the raging sea
of loveless depths
you were so consumed
with the need to feel
love, you didn’t realize
you left one hell
and entered another
and under the waves
you still do not hear
the voice of one who
loves you most, crying: Come
back Come back
You were not Icarus
not a legend
your story little
more than a tragic
(fairy) tale
