Not Me

It’s a miracle that I’m still alive

I have run from too many zombies to count

They have feasted on millions

I’ve watched my friends fall

But I continue to run

You won’t get me

If I could say one thing

To the mindless stalkers who relentlessly pursue my flesh

I would ask them, who are you?

Where did you come from?  Do you know?

I know you were infected by the living dead,

But who infected them? Where did it start?

I know you are in a trance

You may not realize what you are doing

You can’t ignore your hunger

It’s an instinct, it’s savage

But there must be something we can blame

Some person we can pin the guilt to

Do Zombies watch TV?

Is this another virus of the media?

Have you played one too many

brain-eating video games

That you can no longer tell the difference

between right and wrong?

My best friend thought you loved her

She didn’t know you were already dead

I trusted you with my sister

I didn’t yet recognize

Your characteristic limp

Now I can see you coming a mile away.

So come and get me! I dare you.

Just see what happens

When you try to sink your teeth in me

I’ve chopped the heads off of bigger monsters than you

Your grunts, your moans

Don’t have a prayer

You may like my legs

But you should look out for my arms

I’m armed and ready.

Make a move for my brain

And I’ll give you a piece of mind.
