Not My Sister

I flip the channel

On comes the news

Isla Vista has been attacked

There are the news crews.

Wait, I think, I know of I.V.

Isn't that where my sister's supposed to be?

My mom's heart is beating,

There's fear in her eyes.

I don't know what she'll do

If her eldest daughter dies.

Her hand reaches for the phone

She dials real fast

All this time I'm thinking

Of my sister in the past.

The ringing seems to last forever

I can hardly breathe

But then a familiar voice answers

And I feel huge relief.
