Not Old Enough

A young girl only twelve who is not old enough to understand what is happening

A young girl that is only twelve who does not know what this world is yet

A young girl that is exposed to something maddening

Even though it isn't anything that she did she is filled with regret

How could she know that there are people in the world like this 

How could she see that this is not her fault

Who could she tell when she doesn't even know who did this

She didn't even know that it was considered assault

Listen to me sweet child who is no longer a child you need to know one thing

There are people in this world who will laugh at your falls 

Despite all this you will learn to stand back up and sing

You will come to understand the world and all these brawls

Look to your future I can promise you that it is bright 

Learn to accept the things that you cannot change

I promise you that you know how to fight

We made it through but we are still fighting a battle that is strange

There are people that need to hear everything we have to say

We cannot do it alone although we might want to

We will not let our stories be washed away

I was not old enough but I was strong enough to make it through
