This is Not a Poem

Let me tell you something.

I love writing,  but poetry is just co complicated.

So let me make this clear right off the bat:

This is not a poem.

Read that last sentence again,

Please don't waste your time.

Just, please, for crying out loud,

Don't look for a rhy

a correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words.

What?

Did you really think I'd give you the satisfaction of saying "Rhyme?"

Well, sorry, but,

This is not a poem.

Are you looking for some kind of imagery?

Something that will fire up your senses?

Yeah, that's what poetry does, right?

Something like:

"Glittering, white blankets of snow covering the forest floor."

Or,

"The crackling and popping of bacon radiating through the room."

Or even,

"The golden, blue sunset filtering through the mountains."

Something like that?

Something that paints a picture in your head?

Something to charge a spark in your brain,

Send it rippling through your mind,

Roaming tirelessly through your right hemisphere

Until it imprints itself into your vision?

And you only focus on that mark that the spark left behind,

No matter what else you're actually looking at?

Well there won't be any of that,

Because

This is not a poem.

If you were paying attention,

You would have noticed that there was absolutely no element of poetry

Written here at all.

Because,

And I repeat,

This

Is

Not

A

...

Wait.

Did I say "repeat?"

How many times did I say...

And what have I been...

Okay, nevermind.

This is indeed a poem...
