Not a #selfie

on my yearbook photo

scanned in and uploaded

to instagram.

But who I am can only be seen

by turning the camera lens

180 degrees.

I am not brown eyes

or auburn hair

or freckles

or a slightly crooked smile.

I am the sunset over San Sebastian

that awed my brown eyes,

the salt water from the Medditerranean Sea

that made combing my auburn hair

nearly impossible,

the Andalusian sun that graced my nose

with countless new freckles,

and all the things

that have made my crooked smile

spread across my face.
