Not Who You Thought

You see our actions
And condemn us.
You see our inactions
and condemn us.
When you see our suffering,
You ignore us.
Who is the one that is truly blind?
I know it's not me
For I can see what you can't.
You fight your own children
For what you do,
Harming their lives,
Wanting to do more.
They see what you have done.
They know what you have been through,
What you've overcome.
And though they love you and hate you at once,
It is truly you that suffers the most.
You, who they believe they let down;
You, who knowingly brought them down;
You, whose words have cut them deep;
You who cannot be redeemed.
Are you who you think you are?
