Note to Self

You are not a statistic

You are not your 3.85 GPA

Or your rejection from every UC

You are not a machine

Or your grade on that test last week

You are a human being

And it is ok to cry

It is ok to lose yourself every once in a while

As long as you never lose sight

Of who you are

And who you want to be

Success isn’t a leather chair

Happiness isn’t a white picket fence

This is your life

So live it as you damn well please

I know, you want it all

You aim so high

You forget to stay on the ground

But continue to chase after skyscrapers

As if they were made for you

And if a woman in a dark suit

Tells you that being at her overpriced school

Will set you up for success

Then fuck her

Because she doesn’t know you

And she doesn’t know how far you’ve come

Prove their system wrong

You are not a statistic

Don’t you dare give up
