Nothing
It seems like everyday I’m closer to tears,
Falling and breaking and shattering inside,
Struggling to hold it together, failing to hide my fears,
Making me want to cover my face and hide,
Waiting to for someone to seek the hiding,
Someone to tag those running from fear,
Those hop scotching away from pain,
And jump roping over depression,
We need more of them,
Those who understand,
Those who know how to play the game,
But breaking the rules to truly see how it works,
How it all works,
How the world spins,
How it continues to spin and spin and spin,
While we walk somewhere, but walk nowhere,
The world spinning at our feet,
But we feel no movement,
No direction,
No sense of urgency,
Nothing.
Because the world is not a game,
It can’t be won,
But it can be lost,
It can be ruined,
It can be poisoned,
And it can die,
And it will take us down with it,
It’s murderers,
It’s inhabitants,
It’s beating heart,
Struggling to live,
Because they fear,
They fear changing the rules,
Will make them lose the game,
Will make no one want to play with them,
Make them fear and cry and run,
For we fear,
We fear that there is no one out there for us,
Fear that their truly is no one,
No one,
But ourselves.
And we take down the world,
Because we fear that’s all that’s left,
And we hold on tight,
Too tight,
And we choke it,
We choke the world,
Until it’s dust,
Our pain drilled to it’s core,
Our depression acid to it’s life,
And our fears cracking it’s surface.
And it brings tears,
Tears to my eyes who’ve seen horrors,
Who’ve seen miracles,
And it breaks me,
It breaks my soul,
To see the bipolar nature of this world,
As we tug it,
Tug it in both directions,
Not knowing which to choose,
For we alone,
We are alone
For alone we are nothing,
And the world is nothing,
And we become nothing,
For nothing is what we’ve become,
For we agree nothing is something,
And something is worth nothing,
Because everyone has both,
And we can’t decide,
Can’t decide,
Or think,
Or follow a path,
Or write a poem,
For we are lost,
Fearful,
Wonderful,
Magical,
And yet,
Nothing.
