Nothing Anyone Could Do

Muffled thumping through thin apartment walls

Knock knock knock and a scream

Coming from 216

Noise complaint in progress

Blue and red

Red and blue

“What seems

to be the problem, officer?”

No

Probable

Cause

No

Help

Coming

The block gets quiet

Finally, a crash

A flash and then dark

There will never be another sound

Coming from 216

Too little, too late

The police said

“There was nothing we could do”

She loved him

Loved

They were a loving couple

Loving

He twisted her affection

Into metal bars

Because he loved her

She could never do right

In his tyrant eyes

Until it was all over

Blue and red

Red and blue

Nothing anyone could do.
