Nothing Compares

Father,
          Against all odds from the start,
     I was placed together to fall apart.
     Almost gone before ever did I breathe;
     Nearly lost again before the surgeon came to sheathe
     Under the skin and through the skull.
     My view of life was growing dull.
     In darkness, it was hard to see
     How beautiful my life could be.
     You taught me how to see the light;
     To let my heart replace my eyes for sight.
     As I chase my dreams, I listen for you
     And remember the troubles you've helped me through.
     With gratitude to which nothing compares,
     Thank you for answering all of my prayers.
