Is Nothingness A Thing

Probably nostalgic not really a thing

But this current preamble

sets my thought on fire.

The wax that melts fuels the rope that shines

But don’t both burn brightly backward

Into nothingness whence they come?

The hater and the hated,

The brilliance of sunlight

And the density of moonlight:

Its sharpened eyes cutting through

Thick undergrowth of dark carpets

A dreamer and a fulfilled dream…don’t all waste

Like the candle and its light into nothingness…?

When a glorified monkey towers

Above his horror-stricken paupers

Don’t they all ride into oblivion

Whether on arrogance or submission

Or the toe-piercing follicles of defiance?

The wax that melts fuels the rope that shines

But don’t both burn brightly backward

Into nothingness whence they come ?
