Now, I See
You bought me that necklace
A crescent moon showered
In crystals and diamonds.
The countless pieces of paper
Loving words scrawled in disarray
As you tried to find what to say.
Your eyes, a deep brown with gold
Staring at me every time I talked
The smile that I remember, forever.
So many twilights spent in your truck
Holding each other close, watching the sunset
The colors bleeding and seeping into us.
All these things made my life
But nothing good last forever, right?
It made me nothing to you.
The booze on your breath
The pills in the glove compartment
And your hands around my neck.
I became blind and gagged
Under your influence.
The drugs you took invaded me.
Oh my god, I said stop!
I said don’t!
You can’t!
You said you loved me,
And maybe you did.
But it doesn’t matter,
Because now, I see.
