Numb
You’ve never felt a numbing such as this. Sweeping in and taking over, swiftly covering your body, paralyzing it to allow the events that have just transpired to truly sink in and take root. Allowing time to let the tear begin to build up as you realize you’ve finally gone too far. Numbed to the point where breathing has become an obsolete factor that you have to consciously put effort into. Empty gaze fixated somewhere in the distance yet seeing nothing of what lay before you. The trance only broken as you remind yourself to take yet another breath, to keep moving forward yet never truly going anywhere. As the tears begin their twisting paths down your face, the shaking begins, racking your whole body violently as the cries of pain are finally let loose. The empty, cold, deadening sound that leaves your mangled body barely conveying the agony you’re feeling in your heart as it is wrenched to pieces. As you collapse, you lie in a tangled, shaking heap, letting the world know the depth of your pain as you curl into yourself, knowing all the while that he is no longer here to hear your cries. Finally giving in in the quiet moments afterwards, when the tears have run their course and your throat is rubbed raw; you know that he was right. You’re no longer the girl he fell in love with.
