O Captain, My Captain Scholarship Slam

How can I express my thanks with limited time?

you took what you knew & told me I could make it mine

how precious is that while growing up?

I never really thought of it much.

Did I even understand all of your words?

I think not but you kept me encouraged

just took some advice and others I left behind

but through it all you stayed by my side

picking me up when I fell so hard

brushed off the dust, and bandaged my scars

told me that life would deal its hand

but how I respond will allow me to stand

I am who I am today because you didnt give up

for that I am here strong, proud, and filled with precious gems

that I can take out into the world and spread to others

with you in mind as my mentor forever

So with that I thank you for all you have done

And I promise to keep pressing on.
