O, The Joys of Fear

Happiness is a terror to possess

Knowing the worst is yet to arrive

Acknowledgment I do confess

The peace brings warfare

I lose sleep

On the thought of its departure

The anxiety buries deep

As I feel more pleasure

What is the use of joy for me?

Never have I been beneficial,

Why should I deserve to be happy?

If I have joy, then I am egotistic

Was what I embedded in my psyche

A feeling that is in truth eccentric

How am I to defeat this problem?

Stop trying so hard

I have determined

My fears are in regards

Of always seeking contentment

Follow Thoreau's guidelines

By living simply and confine

In the urging sensation to please

That is the only way I can be at ease
