Observing addiction

1 Corinthians 10:14 New English Translation (NET Bible)

14 So then, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.

Observing addiction

I entered into my hopelessness as someone else paid

The search for a free ride I wanted over

All had to do with loneliness … this suicidal rape

Offered my own self-worth in my search for cover

It happens so quickly … I was going fast

Downhill at full speed … in an imaginary circle

Substance to get high … trying to forget the past

And so then to tumble down helpless like a turtle

Landing on my back … my mind within my shell

Helpless I reside … waiting for the end

Feeling well protected … in my self-made hell

Hoping that someday … for myself I fend

I seldom look at me … little worth the keeping

Blaming everyone else for the condition I am in

All of my life now fading … I’ll just keep on weeping

About what I lost long ago and the emptiness it brings

I can’t read my own mind … my soul is too mushy

Right and wrong are intertwined like a flimsy rope

Nothing left to find in this degraded lonely hussy

All I can feel is the need and hunger for more dope

I am far beyond the point … considered helpless

I don’t even know anymore who I ought to be

Inhaling every joint … far beyond the reckless

Life has lost all value … I am dead to you and me
