The Obvious Truth
Blinded by trusting thoughts
Persuading myself that he cares
He only has the purest intentions
He loves me
And I, him.
He won’t ever harm me,
He told me that himself.
Disregarding his mistakes
Warnings ignored
Red flags overlooked
My guard down
My walls torn
I allowed him to hurt me,
And put myself in a position
to be hurt again.
I made myself vulnerable to him.
I listened to my heart
Not my mind
And cast away,
Rational thought.
An illusion
Convincing myself
He cares for only me
His time is mine
I am what he desires
Lies.
Lies I told myself,
To distract from the reality
Reality being,
That I was naive.
That’s not love,
Manipulating and deceiving.
That’s not love.
True love demands
Communication and understanding
Time and effort
Loyalty and forgiveness
Support and joy
Wanting to witness their growth
Begging to relieve their pain
Wanting more for them than
They want for themselves
That’s love.
