Ocean

Today, the ocean is grey shimmer

and the shores grey shadows

against the shimmer, so only

the foam dashes across the sand

actually exists, a chalked

white scribble, words amassing

coldly here and receding there,

reading a siren's silent cry,

or the ancient mariner's lonely sigh

as if the epic tale you'd write

upon the sea, should you dare

to voice a thought so grand.
