Ocean
A powerful, mighty ocean
One with waves that tumble and turn and twist
One that pulls your legs from you
One that drags you under
One that foams to the very end of the sand
A sea of words
It comes crashing in
It pulls me under
It jumbles and turns
It teaches a lesson that I can’t speak
It sings a song that I can’t dance to
It paints a picture that I can’t copy
It fills up my soul until I can hold no more
A wave of words
With emotions that burst from me
With joy that rushes to the surface
With pain that turns all inside me
With my dreams deep inside of it
With my life sitting at its surface
I have to share this ocean
This sea of words
This water that holds me in
These waves that I call life
But my hips don’t move like the waves do
And my hands can’t draw the ocean I see
And my tongue doesn’t know the language that flows inside
And my voice can’t sound like this sea
But when I sit alone
Just me and a pencil and paper
I can share this ocean
This sea of words
It spills out of me
One drop at a time
And for once
When I try to share this ocean that is me
I am not stuck
Like a lonely message in a bottle
Getting tossed in with the tide
For once I have found that
When I write
I’m finally free.
