Into the Ocean

Frothy, unforgiving waves slamming against the rocky shore of deception, with the patience of eternity. Depthless trenches habituating alienistic creatures; my sanity and the past that ruined it. I want to escape, to let the ocean take me away to a better future. I want to swim away as a fish, one out of a trillion. Anonymity is a solace; the ocean a constant embrace. I'm falling off a cliff, taking a dangerous plunge into a rocky bay. My hope and trust for the water will save me. A water so cold it paralyzes instantly envelopes me with an unbiased acceptance. My muscles contract, heart lurches, a natural response to the cold. Now I wish I were cold-blooded; a fish, one among trillions, and perfectly adaptable to the cold. I can't breathe, can't breathe, but the ocean is my savior. I force my thoughts to a lull, remain perfectly still and calm. Above me, the crests of the ocean tickle my back and lick at the jagged rocks. I hear sand moving about, pretend to feel fish nearby. I can't breathe, can't breathe, but the ocean is my savior. The ocean's current peels me away, delivering me from all the pain I'd known. I'm free, free. Now if only I could breathe.

^^^^^ Just like Becca said, you used some really beautiful metaphors that I fell in love with!

Reading such an oceanic poem reminded me of when I went to the beach with all of my sisters, and the baby swam clumsily over to me and cried out that she wanted to be a mermaid.

However, this poem made me feel very sad if that were true. It was filled with beautiful metaphors and I find it quite admirable that you were able to continue using water metaphors throughout the entire piece. Thank you for sending this in! Look foward to reading more!

Becca.
