To The Ocean
To the Ocean —
Windswept hair, sand-battered skin
rays of sun beating down on tan feet trudging down the shoreline.
I lie on a surfboard in the midday heat, waves curling gently beneath me as calloused fingers trail
through salted water.
Later, I sit surrounded by friends and family, faint harmonic notes of The Beach Boys
playing through a tiny speaker.
I strum along on an acoustic guitar against the backdrop of the evening high tide,
orange and pink hues of the sunset melting into the horizon.
The cracks of driftwood in a bonfire release embers into the air,
laughter traveling over the breeze as the lights of beach houses glow over the tops of dunes.
I hear the waves call to me, and tomorrow, I'll do it all again.
Signed,
The Girl Who Keeps Running Back To You
