Ocean Kisses
I awoke with a start, the demon with saw blades for hands faded away and I opened my eyes to find new, real darkness.
I pulled myself on top of you, my heart pounding, my fingers clenched around your shirt.
You awoke with a bewildered expression, questioning the dampness of your own cheeks.
Then you saw my face inching towards yours, and somehow you knew I needed you so badly in that moment.
It was a salty kiss, filled with my tears and your pain. Which stemmed from the realization of why I never let you sleep with me.
I had no intention of stopping anytime soon so you didn't pull away.
We danced intricate paths around each other's mouths, out legs tangled together, our hands in each other's hair.
It was as though the only oxygen we could find was in one another's lungs and we struggled to push closer, closer.
Eventually my steady stream of tears subsided and we just stayed there like that, our mouths no longer moving, but silently pressed against one another.
After a while I turned on my side, quickly giving in to my own exhaustion....
I doubt you ever slept again that night.
