Ocean Waves

Every few years you show up in my life

Whether it be in person or in a distant memory

When I hear someone mention your name

I am transported to the old, abandoned beach

The sand between our toes

The ocean waves hitting the warm beach

Seagulls squawking while flying over head

Your soft hand rests in mine

I remember the sound of my laughter as you tackled me in the sand

It was there that I fell in love with someone who wasn’t meant to be mine
