Ode To The Black Man
Listen, let's give a cheer for the black man Let's raise our voices and shout
Let's whoop and holler as loud as we can, and revel about his clout.
Let's go down to the corner bar, where we can talk some smack
Showing all just who we are, and just how we earned our lack.
Let's yawn at dawn and stay in bed til noon, with our heads covered in shame
Let's pretend our actions coincide with the moon, and let others take the blame.
Let's let our minds take a stroll back to all we've had to endure
The prices we paid for being black as our existance became obscure.
Let's let our minds reveal the reason that our vision became so dim
The way we let regret ease in and discipline only a whim.
Let's press our ears to the wailing wall and hear what the masses say
About how the black man was no man at all and they had a price to pay.
Let's dare to dream of a better time the days gone by and buried
A time when we were denied the climb and our burdens we had to carry.
Let's show the world the vision they see is just a false facade
That the things they think of me is in no agreement with God.
That just because they think we're broken and our lives are ripped and upshod
We know of a love unspoken springing from a loving God.
Yes, we may be down today but there is always tomorrow
From our birth we learned to pray and not to stress in our sorrow.
