Ode to the Displaced African

She blends in.

Her unique facial features

get lost in the crowd.

She is the Undercover Nigerian.

Her African print attire hides under a plain-t and jeans.

Kind of like a leather couch, covered in bed sheets.

Oh, but when she speaks,

Her words, her tone, exude traces of her

African background and History.

A turbulent history of a people

Destroyed by division and poverty,

Inspires her to work hard

in this land of prosperity.

Day by day,

Her head remains lifted high.

And ya' know what?

She's also got fire raging behind those black eyes!
