Ode to a Friend
A lovely boy from memories past,
My dearest friend that I have known,
The light he brings into the room,
He is a man, not a thing you own.
In the humid summer afternoon,
The sun shining high in the sky,
We’d laugh and swim on that joyful week,
He’s a glorious and wonderful guy.
His eyes a dark hazel green like the pond,
He is the reason for my heart’s delight,
Those loving hugs I cherish still now,
The memories in my mind shine clear and bright.
The activities we did were memorable,
Laughing with him by the fire,
Him telling me stories of his life,
With the fire’s glow across his face I would sit there and admire.
I used to see him every year,
One week in our summer’s time,
I miss him more than my heart can take,
Wishing for three years to make him mine.
There’s more to him than others may see,
He’s funny, sweet, sensitive, and kind,
His shining black hair like a new moon’s night,
He is smart with a very open mind.
He’s my very best friend that I greatly love,
Though I haven’t seen him in years,
We still text and talk all night,
Not informing him of my falling tears.
