An Ode to This Generation

Don’t be mad because we know your business You took the bat And hit the ball right to the pitcher And what did the pitcher do? Pass the ball. What did you expect? You gave out information that no one asked for People won’t be there to help you clean the fragile china But will sure be there to sip the tea while it’s hot They will go tell your business to anybody and everybody Don’t act surprised and you damn sure better not act like the victim You think you’ve been betrayed? Sweetie, you betrayed yourself This is why I hate my generation They always get butt hurt by the smallest conversation They are also the reason that key points of the story get lost in translation They’re worried about being Instagram famous They want the attention that their so called “heroes” have The likes, the follows, the DM’s The 5 minutes of fame They think this is the same as Being successful When they are two different things Being successful is almost an art in itself Being successful is taking the knowledge that you have in yourself And applying it to turn that rainy day money that is sitting in a jar on a shelf Into a rainy day bank account where you can really have One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight M’s in your bank account Being famous just means people know your name And people can’t tell that it’s truly not the same Being famous means that one day you will eventually be forgotten And you will eventually become bitter and rotten because something’s missing Something’s missing Something’s missing Oh I know What’s missing is that feeling when you're truly happy And no I’m not trying to be sappy And yes being famous can give you these feelings But eventually it will leave you with tears streaming down your face that feel like fire Because you’re just tired and have what you feel is a strange desire… To hide from the world you wanted desperately to be remembered by And even if you aren’t crying because you want to say goodbye You weep because you have gotten nothing to keep from your previous beliefs That once you do something extreme everyone will remember your face But now you’re just encased in a small space Or lying in a two feet wide by six foot long six foot deep case So please listen to me when I let this be known I’m not trying to act like I’m grown or be like those people who try to tell you how to live your life And I know the words that I say might cause strife Because when people try to give you, my generation, the right kind of information that will help you succeed You don’t want to heed because you don’t think about the future Instead of worrying about the tea you should be worrying about what you see Because if you look and pay attention closely You will see that highschool life is solely… Temporary So instead of someone who’s famous being your hero Make it someone who’s successful So you can strive to be like them So you can become not only your own hero But one for the next generation to follow
