An Ode to High School

Walk in as a child,

Walk out as someone new.

They all say that’s what will happen,

And for once, it’s really true.

These halls that seemed so huge and daunting,

Now so stifling and small,

The classrooms that once surrounded me

Cannot hold me in at all.

Dear high school, you taught me much,

How to live, to love, to learn.

But a new journey begins right here,

Finally, it’s my turn.

These walls held many amazing times,

Gym class, basketball, volleyball, cheer.

The memories to me are precious,

Winning and losing, conquering fear.

I took the tests, learned the lessons,

Memorized each bone,

Oh Anatomy, you were mean to me,

But taught the skills I’ll someday own.

So as I walk on from this place,

Goodbye to the laughter, tears and fun.

A new journey lays before me,

Nursing degree, toward you I run!

High school, I won’t forget you,

You shaped me to the person I am,

College will teach me more, I’m sure,

But with you my journey began.
