Ode to I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman

I hear America screaming,

The varied cries I hear:

Those of men,

Each one screaming as he shouldn't be,

Timid and broken.

The Caregivers screaming theirs

As they measure medicine.

The Bourgeoisie screaming that

He's lost his home.

The Survivor screams

As he's brought down in defeat.

The Wealthy screams

To be louder than the rest.

The devastated screaming of a parent

Whose child lies dead for no reason.

Each screaming what belongs to him or her

And to no-one else.

A day that belongs to them with

A night of restless sleep and

Wishing it was only a dream.

Only to wake up to scream again.

Screaming with open mouths

Their heartbreaking,

Lachrymose

Screams.
