Ode to Life

this is my life
and i dare to live
i speak cautiously
yet it's wisdom i give

i've learned not to let anything hold me back
i've set standards for myself
and respect, i do not lack

the fact of the matter is
i am not alone
but i won't hinder myself
because I am God's own.

it's takes a lot
to understand your worth
so i don't put up with everything
especially not being hurt.

in this world
there is so much to learn
you gotta know when to stop
and you gotta know what to yearn.

in this world
there is so much to gain
nobody said it would be easy
what's promised is pain
and after so much loss
comes so much strain
just don't think it's impossible
because that is just insane

you would never think
that a love could overflow
but don't keep it to yourself
let someone know . . .
you have to (at least) plant the seed
in order for it to grow

it's better to look at the positives
than to point at the negatives
because if you're stuck in that mindset
you'll eventually become careless

who wants to be known as bitter?
who wants to be known as cold?
i can understand the disagreement
but at least strive to have a heart of gold

nothing works most
than standing your ground
because when you have a battle
your friends may not be around

so why not be a better person?
show them that you're mature
at the end of the day
it's strength that you'll endure

make sure that what you're doing
is for your own good
because anybody can sell their soul
but everyone won't make it out the hood

when it's all said and done
you're your own competition
if you don't keep score
how will you know when you're winning?

count your blessings
it's the least you can do
i know life is complicated
but that's enough to make it through
