Ode to Lovesickness

That feeling you get when your heart jumps,
It skips with light-heartedness,
And your stomach feels lighter than air.
Through a looking glass, you watch him.
It seems as if he never notices you.
But then he turns to you, whispering your name.
And you feel like you are about to fly and
Leap into his arms.
And then you hear a shrill, interrupting
Voice, that he also whispers to.
And you throw yourself at him,
Protecting him from this intruder,
This person who could easily
Take him away.
You want to hug him, kiss him,
Embrace him with your whole heart.
He says your name, and then raises a question.
It is all a blur because you are still focusing on his words.
How he pronounces your name, how he says thank you.
You smile and look him straight in the eyes…
Happy to let him borrow a pencil.

Sick in heart and sick in head,
All the way to this moment I dread.
Realizing that I can no longer feel,
When everyone else is a fruit,
And I am just a peel…

Worth nothing but dreams,
No love or new beginnings,
Could help to feed the useless winnings.
Of nothing that could,
Or will every be,
If only his head would turn,
And instead of her, he’d see me.
