An Ode to my Ovary

Thank you.

Thank you for being inside of me

my own little monster who could hide in me

confide in me-

in my body.

A bubble of blood

of white stuff and water

of pain and pursue

and with time a life new.

I knew my world would change at my first diagnosis

I could hardly move

I could barely focus.

I was weak with infection

my face a greenish white-

but I might-

if I fight-

be alright.

I’m being quite dramatic but my words are just a tactic for sympathy.

But I don’t want your sympathy.

I want your understanding

your experiences with pain

to relate with my own so my point is known.

Once I had my first cyst on my ovary I knew

that my life wasn’t over-

but my life would be new.

The pain that I felt

that I feel to this day

is numbed by a drug that makes me okay.

It took a golf ball-sized pustule

a chronic infection

to alter my mind

and change my perception of life.

We all have our problems

and I consider mine small

because I could have an illness

numbed by nothing at all.
