Ode to a Ninth Grade Student

Prep yourself, don’t wreck yourself.

Full of surprises, full of excitement,

Like an endless prison,

But with good memories.

High school may seem scary

It was like a fun roller coaster ride,

Met new amazing people with love and passion.

Ninth grade is different,

Went by so fast,

Like a flash in your eye.

I was shy, I wanted to cry,

Fast and scary

Yet cool and fun.

Filled with different challenges along the way,

Though it was tough to keep straight A’s,

The year was filled with laughter.

Might have been stressful,

But I think it’s safe to say we made it.

Adapt or get left behind.

When I started the year,

There was so much to fear,

Now it’s the end of year one,

And now it brings me to tears.

New start, new world,

Starting over to figure out the new world.

Crazy but memorable.

Changed from uncomfortable to relax,

What a loopy roller coaster ride.

When walking through big buildings feeling scared,

Create the memories that will be shared.

Laziness made me a failure.

There will be obstacles that may be hard to get around,

You just have to think where you want to be 2 months from now

Because today and yesterday don’t matter,

It’s how you react in the future,

That will determine the rest of the year.

At times exciting as a five year old birthday party

With friends who stick with each other as if held together by glue.

Freshman year was fun, but now it’s done,

It is like a passing wind,

Too quick to comprehend,

Went by very quickly, enjoy it while it lasts.

The year started with pain,

That pain sprouted into happiness.

Time goes fast, enjoy it while you can.
