An Ode to One Song
Always there for us when we need,
Through pain, hurt, suffering, and joy indeed.
Children listen with their ears, don’t know the art.
Those older listen with their hearts.
Some have meaning
Some is random noise, demeaning.
In every song a story is told,
The art is thousands of years old.
One song can be good no more.
One song can tell the story of a war.
Entire scripts can be made from song,
One can last a whole play if you prolong.
Hamilton written to tell the story of a man
Coming from nothing proving anyone can
Become a hero in your history book
While still having a catchy hook.
The best lesson the play brought,
Never throw away your shot.
One song can tell this story of a bastard.
One song shows he had writing mastered.
Albums put together to please your ears,
Or highlight some of our fears.
Some show issues to act upon,
Take Marvin Gayes “What’s going on.”
Giving insight on the struggles at the time,
Vietnam, racism, pollution, all while keeping rhyme.
Police brutality on the rise in the seventies
Still going on today, showing its longevity.
One song can show issues fought over a whole life.
One song piercing like a knife.
Music will be around forever,
Throughout every endeavour.
Our ears will be pleased even after we are gone,
The music of heaven shall stay right on.
The sound of joy from the angels trumpets,
While we sit back enjoying like crumpets.
After life this music will be most enjoyable,
The joy will be undestroyable.
One song louder than thousands of firing squads.
One song showing the beauty of God.
