Ode to Paper

Your beauty is within

Your blank, white vacancy

Thin, you are, but inside

A sturdy masonry

Opening up closed eyes

To a new form of sight

You have the power to

Make a dark world seem bright

I am so grateful for

The things you give to me

Complex and so simple

Just a slice from a tree

You create an escape

In this world with no light

You can make a beggar

Become a shining knight

With only a pencil

A whole world can be made

Utopia maybe

A king that’s been betrayed

Bring dinosaurs back from

The ground we walk upon

You, and only you, can

Bring life to what was gone

Paper, you truly can

Be anything you choose

Whether you’re written on

Or folded like a goose

Many people have used

You to set their mind free

Why do you give so much

Without asking of me?

You are both destruction

And you are creation

Beautiful paradox

From imagination
