An Ode to Self-Love

My First Love

We met when I was young and naive

You loved me before the others did

Adored me amidst my insecurities

Placed me on a pedestal and

Made me the center of your world.

My Greatest Ally

You knew me best

Saw me through and through

Embraced all my strengths and flaws and

Tried to build me up but instead

I came crashing down.

My Oldest Friend

I’m sorry I took you for granted and

Cast you aside when

I foolishly tried searching for love in others

I guess I just lost sight of

The only love that truly ever mattered.

My Truest Companion

You have waited so patiently

For me to return to you

After finding myself

Even though you knew all along

Who I am and who I’m meant to be.

My Dearest, Last Love

I wish I loved you sooner

To save myself from all the doubt and pain but

Now that I am older and wiser

I promise to love and cherish you always

Until the end of my days.
