An Ode to Service

The mere significance it has is overwhelming,

It holds a spot near and dear to my heart.

It is service.

Creating an atmosphere of caring and understanding.

Building a better community.

These statements may sound prepared,

But to me they hold sentiment.

I was stalled by an unknown idea.

I was awakened by a newfound love.

I was dreaming in color and now

I am serving.

It may seem trivial, to be unable to live without it,

But I have this privilege and I know it is my duty to use it.

I understand no one is calling me to use it,

I am calling on myself to be bigger than me.

Service is a brick in my never ending wall

Building a healthier community,

Building a richer life.

I hold it close to my heart.

It radiates into my soul.

Service is part of me.

I am service.
